Tai Wong Temple
The Tai Wong Temple was built by Tang Man Wai in 1669 and is located in the center of Cheung Shing Street, serving as the main temple of the old market. It was over 360 years old and is now listed as a Grade I historic building. The temple worships King Yanghou and King HongSheng, and peripheral gods worship Fu Shou, Che Kung, Lord of the land, etc. The temple is the main venue for resolving trade disputes and disagreements in the market and posting public announcements. Additionally, the temple houses several stone inscriptions, including the "Reconstruction of Tai Wong Temple Inscription" from 1837, which records the history of the creation of the Yuen Long market and Tai Wong Temple, and the names of 102 stores in the old market. It also preserved the bronze bells in 1731 and several couplet plaques from the Qing dynasty.
