Wong Uk Village 王屋村 

     Wong Uk Village is located in Sha Tin Yuen Chau Kok and was established by the Wong clan from Guangdong province. The village has a long and rich history and has witnessed the prosperity of the local area in the Qing Dynasty, and it also symbolises the clan culture that has been passed down to these days. 

Historical background

     Wong Uk Village was founded during the reign of Qianlong (1736-1795) in the Qing dynasty, which retained the flourish of the clan at that time; the old building is a two-storey green-brick structure with delicate mural paintings and decorations, showing the authority and financial resources of the Wong clan.  

The route between Guangdong and Kowloon

     During the 19th century, the village was the major trading route between Guangdong and Kowloon, leading to the local prospered development. There even used to be an inn named “Yili” for the merchants and travellers next to the Old House of Wong Uk Village. Until the late 19th century, in order to develop the Sha Tin New Town, Tide Cove was reclaimed and most buildings of Wong Uk Village were demolished, only the Old House still remains now that can remind the local development history of Shatin.  

Nowadays Development

     In 1989, the Old House of Wong Uk Village was declared a monument. Being Built around 1911 by the 19th Wong clan generation descendant, is a well-preserved traditional Chinese house.

王屋村

     其位於沙田圓洲角,由來自廣東省的王氏宗族建立。見證了當地在清代的繁華,亦代表一直傳承至今的宗族文化。

歷史背景

     王屋村始建於清代乾隆年間(1736-1795),見證了當時宗族的興盛; 建築為兩層青磚結構,內部的壁畫及裝飾精緻,可見王氏家族的權威與財力。

 

廣東與九龍間的交通樞紐

     於19世紀,王屋村是廣東與九龍之間主要的交通貿易樞紐,並帶動了當地的繁榮發展。 王屋村古屋旁,更曾有一間名為「義利」的客棧,專門接待商客旅人。 直至19世紀末,當地為發展沙田新市鎮不斷填海;王屋村的大部分老建築都被拆除,只有古屋屹立至今,象徵沙田當地的發展歷史。

現今發展 

     於1989年,王屋村古屋被列為法定古蹟。其由王氏第十九代傳人於1911年建造,是一所保存完好的傳統中式民居。
