Java Road, was named and built after the Royal Interocean Lines in 1933, a Dutch Shipping firm in North Point. The term “Java” refers to an island in Indonesia. In the 20th Century, many Fujianese businessmen came to the pier which was set up by the Dutch Shipping firm in North Point to do businesses. Furthermore, some said it was named after the 'Java Sugar Transportation Dock' built by Koeh Chhun-iong, a Fujianese businessman from Indonesia.
渣華道原稱爪哇道，於1933 年建成，以當時位於北角的荷蘭爪哇輪船公司。此外，爪哇是指印尼爪哇島。在二十世紀初，荷蘭爪哇輪船公司在北角設有碼頭和辦事處，有不少福建華僑來往此處貿易。關於渣華道的命名，亦有說法指是得名自印尼的福建富商郭春秧所興建的爪哇運糖碼頭。
